EAS Robotics

Trax is technically not a robot but a highly modified radio controlled off-road car. Inside the protected aluminum housing contains the radio control receiver electronics/batteries along with a CCD camera. The CCD camera is the small square box mounted in front. The wires sticking out in back is the 1/4 wave antennae for the 400Mhz video transmitter. The picture quality is quite stable and it is a thrill to try to control the car just by looking at the video received on a small portable monitor. This is a work in progress project to see how all the electronics interact together and how much interference each sub-system presents to each other. Our next step is to mount the video subsystem in a model R/C airplane. Cheaper to crash the car than it is to see the plane fall out of the sky due to EMI problems.
